How much an IEP adds
In Northside ISD a mainstream IEP setting totals $17,026 for 2026-27, and resource or self-contained settings total $15,904. San Antonio ISD and Edgewood ISD come in somewhat lower, and smaller districts in the outer counties come in higher.
Schools
The Winston School San Antonio, a school for students with learning differences, is in the state finder. Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children appears in the federal survey but not in the TEFA finder as of our check. Several Christian and Catholic schools also report special-education services.
Therapies
Speech, occupational, behavioral and dyslexia therapy can be paid from the account when Medicaid or insurance doesn't cover them. We list the approved San Antonio-area therapists by specialty.
No IEP yet
Without a current IEP on file with TEA, the account is the standard $10,474. Request a district evaluation early.
Which IEPs count
The IEP has to be from the 2023-24 school year or later and on file with the Texas Education Agency by the end of the application period. The add-on depends on the instructional code in the IEP, not on the diagnosis.
Small districts get more
The add-on follows the state formula, which gives smaller districts more per student. A mainstream IEP totals $19,208 for a Lackland ISD resident, compared with $17,026 in Northside ISD.
Homeschool and IEPs
The IEP add-on only applies at a participating private school or pre-K/K provider. A homeschooled student with an IEP gets the $2,000 homeschool amount, which can still pay for approved therapy.
